Oh how I love fantasy "trash."
Synopsis: Two regular twins girls, stuggling to make ends meet as they have moved from foster home to foster home, find out they may not be just two "normal girls." Approached one night by a mysterious man, he brings Darcy and Tory to Solaria, a world of fae, and monsters, and all the things from the fairytales they grew up reading. A fairytale they are now a part of as they learn they are the sole heirs to the throne of Solaria, after their mother and father (the king and queen) were suspiciously murdered. To claim their throne, and inheritance, they must graduate from the Zodiac academy, come into their own powers, and not be murdered by the 4 super hot, super dangerous, Celestial Heirs who believe the throne belongs to them.
Plot: So...the plot is fine. There is nothing extra special about it and the writing can definitely be cringy at times. But, all that being said, I could not put this down! This was like reality TV trash that you know is garbage but you can't help but push "next episode." I was invested and flew through the pages. This was addicting. I think it suffered a little bit from being the first book in a super long series, meaning it was a lot of world building and set up. BUT, I see the vision and I'm quite excited to take on the ride. This was enjoyable none the less and exactly what I needed and wanted when I picked this up.
Characters: I think we got a really nice set of character in this first book. We were introduced to a lot, but I never felt overwhelmed or confused which can happen with first books. I think it was the perfect amount, because not only were we able to dive into our main twins, but also the four heirs, and many side characters. I felt connected to them all and was already rooting for Tory and Darcy pretty immediately. I think character relationships are really what is going to make this shine. Currently, I don't see how this can be a romance...but I know that it is, so I'm a little worried. Right now though, since there is no romance, I'm loving it. But, I know that once the bully becomes the boyfriend, I might have to put this down. Bully romances (especially after what happened in this book) are not my thing.
I already purchased the second even before I finished the last few chapters. Need to feed the new addiction.
3.5/5 stars.
