This one has been on the list for a long time. My first Beth O'Leary novel and a pretty good introduction at that.
Synopsis: Desperate to get out of her ex-boyfriend's apartment, Tiffy will take any cheap living option she can find. That option just so happens to be sharing a flat with Leon; a nurse who is never home during the day and needs the cash. With this arrangement, Tiffy and Leon end up sharing a flat...and a bed...and have never even met. On top of that, add a crazy ex-boyfriend, an imprisoned brother and two crazy jobs to the mix.
Plot: The plot is definitely intriguing and is a twist to the sharing one-bed trope, (which is also included) and there were definitely a lot of really cute moments. My biggest issue was that the two main characters don't even meet until 50% of the book is finished, making the first half really quite boring. There is a lot of emphasis on their jobs and not enough on their romance, besides note leaving. There was also a little bit of a darker side to this novel which I wasn't expecting at all. Not saying that it was a bad addition, but something to note. Tiffy's ex-boyfriend is very aggressive and is stalking her throughout the novel. She is also dealing with PTSD from that emotionally abusive relationship and she is coming to terms with the damage that left and how to move forward in other relationships despite it.
Characters: Tiffy is such a fun heroine and Leon is a really sweet hero. The banter and understanding between the two is top-tier and I really enjoyed every moment we had of the two together, even though there weren't that many. Despite the lack of on-page moments, the relationship between the two was very believable and their past relationships were handled very well. The novel also involved many side characters, but for once I found that as a bonus and found them all to be nice extras to the story not taking away from the main two.
Overall, it was a funny, entertaining and pretty cute book. I just wish there was more romance in this ROMANCE novel.
3.5/5 stars.
