Wow, finally! It's been read! I'm the last person ever and it took me two years but she's been finished and she was fantastic.
Synopsis: The First Son of the President of the United States and his long-time enemy, the Prince of Wale's get into a confrontation at the royal wedding which the tabloids get ahold of, threatening British/Amerian relations. The plan for fixing it? Faking a friendship between the two. What they didn't plan for? That friendship turning into something way more. The President is going into her reelection campaign alongside this growing secret relationship, causing some potential turmoil for the two nations and their history/future.
Plot: This took me a minute to get into but once I was in, I WAS IN. My only complaint plot-wise is that I would have preferred just a little less political talk. I feel like it made the story a tad confusing at times and tended to take away from some of the romance. However, I still swooned, I cried (3 times!?), I laughed a lot. It was perfect. The commentary on the LGBTQ+ community, especially when it comes to history, was so important and so meaningful. Kept me interested until the end and there was even a good twist too. Overall, just 400 pages to make you smile.
Characters: Henry and Alex are so lovely. Definitely, puzzle-piece characters that compliment each other so well. The banter on its own is enough reason to read this. Alex, his friends and his sister are hilarious, (Zahra is the best character period). The family aspect too, even though they're royal or presidential, was still so real and all the relationships were very believable. Perfect, loveable characters.
I can completely understand why this won the Goodreads Choice Award in 2019. So so so good.
5/5 stars.
