Malibu Rising

Wow, this woman can do no wrong. I am a huge Taylor Jenkins Reid fangirl and I feel absolutely no shame about it.

Synopsis: Story follows the 4 famous Riva siblings throughout one day: the day of the massive party they throw every year. A party where things always tend to get a little crazy, and this year is no exception. Sprinkled in with the hour-by-hour updates of the party (from multiple POVs) are flashbacks ranging from when their parents first met leading all the way back to present day.

Plot: Overall the plot is very simple, but that doesn't mean it wasn't everything I wanted it to be. The way the chapters are set up between hour by hour of the party vs. year by year of backstory flashbacks kept me VERY invested. It felt as though each chapter left on a cliffhanger and you had to wait a few chapters to get back to that character's storyline. It is incredible how TJR handled all the conflicting storylines so perfectly. She has an amazing craft with storytelling. Despite having many plots at once, nothing felt unimportant or random, it was all perfect and handled in the right way to make the best impact. Great twists and turns throughout and overall surpassed my already high expectations. There are characters featured that are mentioned in her other books, but you absolutely can read this as a standalone.

Characters: This for me is where TJR excels. There are quite a few main characters in this book and many different side characters with their own short stories as well. Regardless of the amount introduced, every single one feels important and fleshed out, like her many plotlines. The siblings and the parent's backstory are the most prevalent in the story and I feel as though I was in a way reading 6 different narratives in one. Each portrayal equally interesting and lovely. TJR just understands and analyzes people and relationships in a way that is hard to put into words. The story is equally heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once.

Everything she writes is 5 stars I'm sorry. Evelyn Hugo? Fantastic, 5 stars. Daisy Jones? Amazing, 5 stars. Malibu Rising?

Incredible, 5 stars.

Cannot wait for what she writes next.
