Magnolia Parks

(Please note that I used the old covers because the new ones are a heinous crime).

I have seen this book EVERYWHERE recently and I really do love that social media and BookTok specifically can give indie-published books a resurgence and a platform to get picked up by big publishing houses. That being said, it was constantly shoved in my face and intriguing me so I picked it up and here we are.

Synopsis: A match written in the stars-BJ Ballentine and Magnolia Parks, two of London's top socialites. After dating for years and breaking up after he broke her heart in an unforgivable way, they still cannot seem to stay away from each other. Each time seeming to figure it out, only to make more mistakes, push each other away, and leave them crawling back to repeat the cycle. She dates other people and he has meaningless sex to wave in front of her. Will they stop this neverending circle of pain and figure it out? Or are they going to finally call it quits and put an end to everyone's favorite couple?

Plot: This is 100% a character study because besides following Magnolia and BJ around for all 450 pages, not much else occurs. Fine by me though because the way I was SO entertained by this. If you liked the cinematic masterpiece that was Gossip Girl, then pick this up because it is just a UK edition. The emphasis on fashion was so fun and the utter chaos of this and unpredictability made this reality show-esque and incredibly addictive. That ending though???? Was NOT expecting that and very rarely does a romance throw me for a loop.

Characters: Now, I am not one to usually advocate for toxic relationships and BJ and Magnolia are toxic couple #1, but I gotta say that despite their obvious issues I was still somehow rooting for them and their toxicity wasn't as disturbing and upsetting as it was entertaining and fun. Does Magnolia need more self-respect and to kick BJ to the curb finally and stop playing with other boys' emotions? Absolutely. Does BJ need some serious therapy and to maybe possibly stop using girls and sex as a coping mechanism for unhappiness? Definitely. Was I still glued to every page and flew through this? Yep. Side characters were also pretty okay and I am very curious about the following titles, specifically #2 and following Miss Daisy.

Already ordered book 2...will be finishing this series ASAP.

Not perfect, but a hell of a good time.

4/5 stars.
