Kingdom of the Wicked

Fantasy romance is truly elite. No one can tell me differently.

Synopsis: After discovering the brutal murder of her twin sister Vittoria, Emilia is on a quest for vengeance. As a streghe--a witch living in secret among her town--she decides to tap into forbidden dark magic, the magic her dead sister mysteriously seemed to be doing too. This leads Emilia to mistakenly summon one of the Wicked princes of Hell. Wrath. Gorgeous Wrath, who claims to be on her side, assisting her in her revenge and understanding the strange things that have been happening around town. But can she trust him?

Plot: Who doesn't love a witch plot? This was fantastic and I can't believe it took me so long to pick it up. Very fast-moving pace, lots of twists and turns and definitely a page-turner. I couldn't put it down. The vibes and setting around this were immaculate, very spooky and mysterious and left you questioning and curious. On top of that, there was a romance, of course. I'll take a prince of hell if they're all like Wrath. I also think this was one of the most mature YA Fantasy's I've read in a long time. There were topics of grief, depression and quite of bit of descriptive violence as well. Overall, there was a lot of creativity in the writing and creation of this world which made it super fun to dive into.

Characters: My biggest issue is that Emilia made some HORRIBLE decisions. I just wanted to shake some sense into her, as there was very little critical thinking going on here. The princes of hell on the other hand...*chefs kiss*. Loved every second one of them was on the page and I can't wait to get more of them and their mysterious nature, backgrounds and personal arcs in the second novel.

Can't wait to pick up the next one. Well done Maniscalco.

4/5 stars.
